The Urban Environment and 'Quality of Place'
When people, companies, or industries can live or locate anywhere or, at least, choose from a multiplicity of different places, the question of where to locate becomes increasingly contingent on the particular attributes of any given location – that is, on the quality of the place. That place seems to matter more provokes both renewed interest in the attributes of ‘good’ places and new interest in concepts, processes and practices of place making as an integral part of urban development, redevelopment and regeneration. This track seeks papers focusing on following themes:
- Neighbourhood environmental quality and ‘liveability’
- Dereliction and contaminated land: impacts and prospects
- Public realm, green spaces and civic health
- Surveillance, anti-social behaviour, community safety and exclusion
